Hi again gang,

Mrs. Hou, the Standing's day gecko, continues to improved daily :)

But yesterday, she hit me with a surprise left - she popped out an egg!
[definitely non-fertile, all gooey and jellified].

But maybe that was part of her problem, too. She hasn't laid an egg in
almost two years; maybe she wound up in trouble with this one? Without
thinking (of her:(, I moved all the hanging houseplants outside: maybe she
felt she had no place to put it?

When I palpated her abdomen, I definitely didn't feel it, but it was jelly
anyway. It never crossed my mind that she could be gravid, and this could be
an inferring factor.

But - again, she's improving daily, getting her appetite back and basking.
Unfortunately, she's going to have to be demoted to 'pet' status, as I'm not
comfortable letting her have free roam of the herp room anymore, in case
something else happens.

Some one (I won't use their name, they wrote offlist) had a very
interesting, and I think, plausible suggestion: When Dave found her, she was
on her back, with her head under a dish towel and her mid section to tail
under the microwave (occasionally, when they lights go off in the herp room,
they come and 'visit' - but are always shooed back).

They writer's suggestion was a build up of lactic acid in her bloodstream
from struggling (if she was indeed stuck, and fighting with Mr. Hou). Gators
can get it very quickly, why couldn't a gecko? I think he may have nailed
it.

In any event, I'm thrilled that I think she will pull through. But her
breeding days, at age >10, I think are definitely over! And she's getting
very frustrated with her hospital tank, so I'm going to set her up a
permanent 20 gal (what she had been in for years.)
