Hi Elizabeth, although L.lugubris do appear in Central America, they are still pretty scarce and restricted to a few places in Panama and Costa Rica, as far as I know.
The very common Hemidactylus mabouia and H.frenatus actually do a lot of chitchat during night and day. I remember a NewZealander I met in Palenque, Chis.,Mex., who wondered about the origin of those sound from around his hammock. When I told him "Geckos" he said "it would take me ages to find out!!!!". Funny.
