Actually walnut shell is not digestable and tends to mold. They have also cultured some nasty stuff out of walnut shell bedding. Like Aspergilosis. I would not recommend using this product.

Yes it's used for birds. It's crushed walnuts, and it's totally digestable and cheap! I use it on my 40 g breeder. I have 4 leos, two that I raised from babies on that substrate. I think I bought that bird substrate for 2.99 for a 15lb bag. You don't have to worry about impaction. It's good for all lizards. Though I probably wouldn't use it on lizards that need a high humidity, because it would dry them out. The substrate absorbs water like a sponge and then dries it out right away. It's also not dusty like sand or your wood chips which are a "no no" to use on leopard geckos or any sort of lizard. I think it's better than calci sand. Well good luck!
