Could you give name to that online source for the cork tube? Did you say that you are from Portland? I'm working with a couple of Ebenaui and would very much like to look at what others are doing with their Uro's.[Original Message] From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: 11/14/2003 6:20:51 PM Subject: Re: [gecko]Hello I just found a place online that has small cork tubes. I plan on gettingone for the cage. I use power compacts, and I need to figure out a basking light for the ten gallon. If I have a red light, or one of those moon lights, for night timeviewing, will this bother the plants?I found a place in Seattle that has dried bamboo that is 8 to 12 inchesin diameter and comes in 12 foot lengths. I am going to try the large diameter in the lineatus cage, as well as the smaller diameter bamboo- hopefully, I can get breeding out of them-TQHi TQ, I've kept them under different lighting conditions with no problems. I recommend a florescent strip for general lighting and a small spot light (approx. 25 W) near the top end of a cork tube. They will come to the top of the tube and hang out to bask. This is very important for females. NeilHello, Neil, thank you for the info. Right now, the geuntheri is in with pathos, sandblasted grapevine, some twigs, and coco fiber bedding. I feed him crickets, and lobster roaches. He seems to like his set up, but I want a more natural look. I can not wait to get his mate this March. As for lighting, I am still thinking this over. If they are from dense forest, then indirect light is needed, if from space more direct light is needed. Then again, light is mainly for the plants. I also wanted to ask, how many lineatus keepers, keep theirs with bamboo, in the cage. I have kept pairs with and with out, with the same results. Breeding did not happen with either pair, but I did not try. Anyone with the same results? TQHi TQ, Finding exact details on U. guentheri habitat is about as rare as finding the geckos themselves! Look up info on dry deciduous forests in North Western Madagascar, two such being Ankarafantsika(AmpijoroaForestry Station) and Kirindy (more southern). I've seen theunderstoryof the first locale described as "sparse" and photos of Kirindy that were more dense. Both locations have sandy soil. These areas have a dry hot summer, so seasonal variations are important, as much as to stop breeding as to trigger it. It's hard to say exactly what microhabitat these geckos prefer.AnythingI've found published says bushes or lower part of the understory up to approx. 9 ft. In a 10 gallon, any amount of planting and branches would be somewhat dense. I try to avoid making it too complicated, as cleaning and checking for eggs then becomes a pain. U. guentheri usually hide during the day, so provide cork bark tubes, or even papertowel tubes as refuge. A basking area is also required, with the rest of the enclosure being 75-78 F during the day and 8-10 F cooler at night (a bit cooler won't hurt, especially during winter. Humidity should be 75% duringthe dayand 90 or so after misting at night. Generally, think forest instead of rainforest.
