I live in Stuart, Fl and a friend in Bradenton, Fl gave me a Tokay he found
in his yard. I asked friends that are herp keepers at zoos how to sex it. I
followed their advise and the Tokay seemed to be a female(by the lack of a
large sized bump at the base of the tail). She barked frequently in the
middle of the night with the signature "Tokay" call. I found a good male at a
herp shop for $10.00 and put him in with the supposed female. The first night
I heard a quieter than normal bark and nothing since from either. I have
watched them closely at night and during feedings for aggressive behavior.
They seem to be pretty comfortable with one another and often feed side by
side on the glass.
Recently I have read only males bark "Tokay" and females only bark when
threatened. I want to get another female but I am afraid I have two males now.
If the females do bark "tokay" why did they stop? Any help would be
appreciated.
