Cyndy- Leopard geckos are a lot of fun to breed. One of the many reasons I love them so much is that no two are alike, even the "normals" are all so variable in pattern.
I start all my hatchlings on mealworms, feed them daily, and normally by the time they are 5-6 months old they are around 35 grams. At that time I switch them over to superworms, and they are fed these 2 or 3 times weekly. I also feed crickets to my subadults/adults once a week. I always hold back several females each year, and normally they will be breeding for me the next breeding season. I get an average of 6 clutches a year from my first year females. My older females usually lay 8-10 clutches a year. The oldest female in my collection is 5 years old (still very young for a leo!), she laid 12 fertile clutches last year. My husbands boss at the zoo recently donated a pair of leopard geckos she had had since the mid eighties (she received them as adults) and they were as healthy looking as my 2 year olds! Leopard geckos are such neat animals! Ah, I could go on all night about them, but I won't put you through that ;-) Good luck with yours! It is amazing how much less food he needs, compared to the girls. He is so fat! A guess my baby, that was 3g when she hatched and is 7g at 2 months, has a long way to go. She is my first with a perfect jungle stripe. > Cyndy > > -- Julie Bergman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I usually wait two years for females because that is how long it takes > them to fully mature.
