Here is an alternative to the bugs: The Bean Farm (Herpetological & Animal Husbandry Supplies) in Carnation, Washington (www.beanfarm.com) sells cage moss at $12 per bale or 3 or more $10 each.
Here is the description from their catalogue: "Oregon green tree moss is a great cage substrate for amphibians and wetland environment reptiles. Also works great in egg-laying chambers. Moss is dry but will rehydrate and hold moisture with misting. Bales are approximately 8 inches cubed/compressed. An excellent value!"
This moss actually is mostly still green, in contrast to similar moss you might find at home improvement stores which has long ago turned brown. I've a bale I'm using now.

Does anyone have a method of debugging fresh-collected sphagnum
moss? It's very hard to buy good quality sphagnum here, but it is
very common locally.
Thanks,
Neil
