Hi William,

I use Nolvasan to disinfect plastic Rubbermaid boxes, it works well. I have not used
quatricide
products on plastic boxes, but I use it on the melamine shelves of my racks. The
product I use is
Lemon Clean from Smart and Final here in California. The active ingredients are
didecyl dimethyl
ammonium chloride n-alkyl (1.875%) and Dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (1.248%).
The active
ingredient in 409 cleaner is alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (0.3%), the
latter ingredient
in Lemon Clean, but in a lower concentration. I have always been curious about the
effectiveness
of using 409. What do others think about 409 for disinfecting melamine shelves (non
animal
contacted surfaces) or animal cages directly? I have always thought of 409 as fairly
nasty stuff
to work with, but that may be the other ingredients as the Lemon Clean isn't too bad.

Regards,

Steve
