Melody -

On a typical incandescent bulb, most of the energy
is in the form of heat and not light.

Compact fluorescents are more efficient energy use-wise
because they do not generate nearly as much heat.

I think if you tried a red compact fluorescent as a
heat lamp bulb, you'd be very disappointed.

I suggest trying a white bulb first and see if you
get the heat you expect.

If all you want is the red light to watch the
nocturnal gex at night, they'd be fine.
