Sherron,
??Most true?geckos (= Gekkoninae) have the ability to darken or lighten similar
to some Anolis lizards, they don't actually change color, just shades, although
some house geckos may have variable patterns that you can't see unless they
darken or lighten.?not sure of Diplodactylines or Eublepharids can do it.

Hi, Ronald

Oh, I sure hope not. We've been here for over a year now and haven't seen
anything like that. We've had a new neighbor move in across the street, but I
don't think our geckos really go too far away from here -- they seem pretty
happy to hang around with the fruit, water and meal worms we give them.

She is still eating, though, which is encouraging. This morning she jumped
right at me when I walked over to her and gulped down a meal worm.? I have been
giving her the smaller worms I usually give the really small geckos (I have
been raising the meal worms myself the last few months) in case she had trouble
with the larger ones.? I also offered her the pupa, but she wasn't interested
in them (it seems to be a learned item).

I know that when I take a photo of a dead gecko, there is almost an iridescent
blue to their skin that doesn't show up normally in a live gecko -- except for
her. Do you know what causes that??

She has been sleeping inside the last few nights, too. Up near the ceiling in
the kitchen. I guess all I can do is hope she survives. :(

Thanks,
Sherron

Sherron,
They may be eating insects that have been treated with pesticides from outside
your home [I hope not]. The coloration maybe a symptom of there discomfort,
some of my house geckos darken when they are about to die.

Subject: [gecko] Question on Gold Dust Day Gecko turning blue

We have a young female Gold Dust Day Gecko who has hung around our kitchen for
quite a few months now, but she is suddenly turning blue on her forward half.?
The only time I have seen any of them turn blue instead of green is when they
have died, so I am really concerned about her.

She still seems hungry, but is much more timid than usual and is much thinner
than she was a few weeks ago and is not eating as well.

We don't have any geckos in captivity, but we have them all over our house,
mostly the day geckos, but also a lot of the house geckos and the Mourning
geckos, so we almost always have papaya and water out for them.? We also feed
them meal worms occasionally, and she ate 3 small ones yesterday, but doesn't
seem to want them today.

Does anyone know what would make her turn blue like that? Is there anything I
can do for her?? Is there anything she particularly needs that I could put out
for her?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as she is one of our favorites. She has
been coming around ever since she was quite small.

Mahalo, Sherron
