Mahalo, everyone

I want to thank everyone who sent suggestions and help on my little premature day gecko hatchling, Li'i. Unfortunately, she took a severe turn for the worse and died yesterday despite desperate attempts to save her. Even at a month old, she was still smaller than the little mourning gecko hatchling we caught in our kitchen on Monday and released. We don't even know what Li'i weighed, as our smallest scale only weighed in grams and she didn't even make that scale quiver.

My husband has a favorite saying: "/Experience is a hard teacher; it gives the test before the lesson/." We have hundreds of geckos around us all the time, but we have never "kept" one before. We know we made mistakes and we have learned from them. We did not realize things could get so bad so quickly and did not always act fast enough. I am just sorry that Li'i had to be our learning experience. The little day gecko hatchlings I catch and take outside all are so different -- some are brave & leap out of my hands, some are scared and have to be nudged off, some cautious, some curious. But Li'i was a brave little spunky girl, who got so used to these big people moving around her and doing things to her -- but wasn't at all shy in letting us know what she didn't like. We just can't believe she's gone. :(

Thank you all again for everything. Special thanks to Elizabeth and to Melody, for their advice and support. It is much appreciated.

Aloha,
Sherron
