Personally, I do think it would be a good thing if people started posting jobs here in which use of one of the open-source tools was an important qualification!
I'm not really all that familiar with PCB design tools, but I know that there have been complaints about Veribest, which they use now. The first complaint is cost, but I may recollect some issues with bugs that the vendor was unresponsive to. If they knew that gEDA would do everything they needed, and bug-fixes were forthcoming, I'm sure they'd be very open to switching. While there is the natural tendency to stick to the tools you know (fear of the unknown), they have no particular attachment to commercial products. Part of my motivation behind posting about this on this list and OGML, besides the greater likelihood of finding an excellent engineer, is to increase the use of Free Software tools in the hardware development process, one company at a time. If the tools can meet the needs of Tech Source, then they can meet the needs of Traversal and hence the OGP and the whole Free Hardware Design community. -- Timothy Normand Miller http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~millerti Favorite book: The Design of Everyday Things, Donald A.
