This isn't a bad idea at all. At the very least, I'm hoping to untangle various functionality so it _could_ be made separate if desired. > But wait for gnucap to work the bugs out. No reason to wait.. there is plenty of core which needs API tidying before plugins could even think about being used with gschem / libgeda. (To name one). My aim was to make things like the page-browser I hacked together some time back, and things like component managers / placers workable as plugins, then we could get people to experiment more with component management.
