Icons are not there to replace the name of the program or name of the
mime-type (that's why you have these spelled out in your menu / file
manager beside the icon).

The purpose of the icons is that when you associate them in your mind
with the specific program/mimetype they represent a graphic shortcut to
reading the program/mimetype name.

That's why they should be a) easily recognizable with distinct
shapes/colors and b) should have some association with the program they
are representing (so they are easier to remember) as long as that
doesn't conflict with a).

Sure, these look nice. But they are nothing but sketches. Try making
them at 24x24 or even 16x16 and see how recognizable they get.
