Ales.. I concur that it should not be uploaded to distributions where it would replace a stable version of gEDA for "normal" users who aren't beta-testing, however... I'd make the suggestion (IMHO) that distribution packagers _should_ try packaging this, even if is for their own testing and experimentation. We now install icons, mime types, and desktop menus, which will probably mean some changes to the packaging scripts. If building distro packages highlights any areas I need to rework in the build infrastructure for these items, I'd rather know and have it fixed before 1.4.0. As anyone within earshot knows, I'm hoping we can get a 1.4.0 done and into Ubuntu Hardy (LTS), for which the feature freeze is all too soon (Feb 14th). By this point we probably need an official Debian package for 1.4.0 available in the Debian repositories - although in reality, we need "something" well in advance of the feature freeze. As I understand the release process, it is much better to be running the development version during the alpha testing cycle. This is more likely to be accepted than a brand new "stable" version, (where the package has been untested in the distro) a day before the freeze. Since any packages released in this way for Debian would only be tested by users of Debian Testing, and the Ubuntu development releases (people who have have signed up to do alpha / beta testing), I think we should be encouraging their help at this stage.
