I've just pushed a patch which renames the configure options for setting
where icons and mime registrations are installed. (As well as fixing an
incompatibility with older autoconf which Ales found).

This makes the configure names more consistent with the "datadir" nature
of their utility, and self-consistent in that both should now contain
the "/share" portion of the path. (The --with-kdedir argument did not).

As a reminder.. they default to '${datadir}' which is expanded at build
time to ${prefix}/share (via ${datarootdir} in newer autoconf versions).

For home directory installs with KDE / XDG compliant desktops, the
configure options:

--with-xdgdatadir=$(HOME)/.local/share
--with-kdedatadir=$(HOME)/.kde/share

Will cause the mime registrations, menus and icons to be installed where
the desktop will pick them up on a per-user basis.

These defaults are provided in the top-level makefile along with the
usual options for a home-directory based install.

Best wishes,
