Hi Steve,

You can blatantly put words in "Paul Tran"'s mouth, but
please don't put words in Paul Tan's mouth. Just kidding.

Best Regards,
Paul Tan

Subject: gEDA-dev: Geda Learning curve and documentation

The subject of the learning curve and geda comes fairly frequently.

To blatently put words in Paul Tran's mouth I believe Paul would argue
that the flexible nature of geda's attributes and scheme interface are
what make geda flexible and thus powerfull.

Well, I was trying to put some documentation together on attributes when
while doing a search on google with the key words (geda attrib
graphical) when I discover a link to geda:master_attributes_list
[gedaWiki] My reaction was wow where has this been hidding. So I try to
back trace to how one would find this document in the wiki pages and it
isn't obvious.

http://geda.seul.org/wiki/    ->
http://geda.seul.org/wiki/geda:documentation   ->
1/3 down the page under the heading "
Attribute/File Format Details" is Master Attributes List

I had looked for something like this earlier and nothing had poped out.

The point of this diatribe was to suggest maybe a rethink about how the
wiki is organized taking into account how users learn specific subjects
and what documentation they need to have access to while they are
learning. In this case I wouldn't group the "Master Attributes List"
with file formats. The basic user doesn't really need to know about the
insides of schematic or symbol file but they critically need to know
about attributes, what they are, when and how to use and what their
effects are.

Not that this would help me as I probably wouldn't take the time to go
through the basic documentation but it might help others.

Perhaps a survey of new users and what their expectations/needs for
shortening the learning curve?
