Tried your program, didn't appear to crash.  Drew a window with a grid,
then a slightly off vertical wide line from approximately center of the
window to somewhere below the window (out of sight) with a slight pause,
then the window disappeared and the xterm displayed "done".

System: IBM Thinkpad A22p, 1GHz PIII, 512M RAM, running raw Slackware 12.0
Distro.
