Quite a lot of distros have the window manager launched via a setgid wrapper
(e.g. to start a DBUS daemon or start ssh-agent)[1]. This strips
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, at least (maybe some other env variables necessary for
$HOME-installed gEDA). I still can't use desktop integration except with
distro packages...

[1] Although this -is- a bug, very few distros seem willing to do anything
about it. Rumour has it that it's fixed in Fedora 9: when I upgrade, I'll try
it out.
