As promised, I've pushed the branch so far to my repository 
as 'for-stable-1.4' (http://snipurl.com/3g29e).

To get it:

  # If you don't have my repo
  git remote add peter-b git://repo.or.cz/geda-gaf/peter-b.git

  # To checkout the branch
  git fetch peter-b
  git checkout peter-b/for-stable-1.4

Testing is good. Do it.
