Peter, thanks for making this available. I'll test with it and see
what I pick up.

There is no way to add a footprint library to the defaults with PCB.
This is a result of the use of a colon as the delimiter in the library
list. So if I add "d:\Projects\footprints\trunk" to the list I get
this message at startup,

Can't scan directory
   'd:\program 
files\geda\bin\..\share\pcb\pcblib-newlib:\Projects\footprints\trunk:d'
opendir() returned: 'No such file or directory'
