FWIW and a bit late response,

OpenGL (from your repo pcjc2.git and branch before_pours_local for which
"git describe" gives: pcb-20070912-base-256-g0c9414f ): 2.1 redraws per
second :( 

pcb-20081128: 5.7 redraws per second ;)

Just what I thought, speed issues on ancient HW (the ratio says more
than the values themselves).

To give an idea of this sluggishness: the mouse pointer on screen lags
about 1 second behind the actual movement of the mouse.
