what do you think the snapshots come from?  I'm not sure what you mean by 
"release
CVS".  The purpose for the snapshots is to let people who don't want to use
the cvs program to access sources gain quicker access to code.  For those who
really want the absolute latest there isn't another way except to the the
cvs program.
