What your describing is in some ways like linears switcher cad 3. Sort of, but 
more advanced...

I don't have a lot of experience with spice. In fact, I have only recently 
started using it. Boy, what a time saver - In the past, I basically winged it 
and if I didn't get it right, I would go back to the proverbial drawing board 
(or bread board as it may be...) until I did. FWIW, I'm using switcher cad at 
the moment and I don't like it because it's not intergrated into geda so I 
have to double up on some of the work required to simulate.

Even so, the value to being able to simulate cannot be understated or at 
least, this spice novice thinks so. I'm psyched about the gui!
