Hi all,
following some thoughts about auto-saving, I have just committed to CVS
the main support for backup copies and autosaving.
Its behaviour is the following:
  - Backup copies: just before saving a schematic for the first time (it
was opened, but never saved), gschem copies the old schematic
your_schematic.sch to your_schematic.sch~ . Then, it saves the schematic
as usual to your_schematic.sch . Note that this is only done the first
time and it won't do it until you close the page and reopen it. This is
like a by-session backup copy.
  - Autosaving: every a configurable number of seconds, each schematic
your_schematic.sch is saved to #your_schematic.sch# . This is only done
if there has been changes (as in the undo) to the schematic, so it won't
save the schematic unless you have changed something. The autosaving
interval is configurable through system-gschemrc "(auto-save-interval
number_of_seconds)" command. When you close the page, the file
#your_schematic.sch# is deleted.

Gschem still doesn't look for backup or autosaved schematics... but it
will do ;-) .

Regards,

Carlos
