Hello fellow gEDA users, I'm about to embark on my first gEDA project, which is also my first hardware design project in general. (I've played with hardware, hacked it, stuck my nose where I shouldn't have, etc., but this is my first time actually designing my own board.) I won't get into details because I really need to start drawing schematics, not write more essays, but it's related to this project:
http://ifctfvax.Harhan.ORG/OpenSDSL/ I'm announcing my embarkment on this project here so that people can wish me luck, etc., but also to list what gEDA symbols I will need to create, so that if anyone else happens to need the same symbols, effort duplication can be avoided. I will need (and create unless they miraculously turn out to exist already) symbols for the following: * MC68302 microprocessor * RS8973 HDSL/SDSL transceiver * 29x040 style flash chips * some RAM * Altera EPF10K30 FPGA * PCB-mount connectors: DB25, 6- and 8-position modular jacks * Lots of other little components I can't think of until I actually get to drawing that part of the schematic. I have a question about proper convention for multipart symbols. I want to make the MC68302 symbol multipart, i.e., have several symbols covering different interfaces of this big chip, all corresponding to the same physical component. (This is the standard practice for representing mega-big SOCs on schematics.) From what I've been able to glean from gEDA documentation, one would achieve this effect by drawing several essentially independent symbols and assigning the same refdes when putting them on the schematic. But what naming convention should I use for this family of symbols, i.e., how should I name the *.sym files?
