That sounds great.
In pcb there are many commands you might want to do that have no menu button at
present -- done by the command line window....
Does GTK have a mechanism to create a key binding for those?

IMHO there is a nice standard mechanism in GTK that allows configuration
of menu shortcuts on the fly. Just go into the menu, put the mouse over
the command and press the desired key. This works in many "official" gnome
programs e.g. nautilus. I guess, it should be possible to activate this
feature in any GTK menu application.
