You'd need to check out the working version out of CVS.

Sounds like the line is selected, or you're grabbing the whole line
and not the end.

Keep one finger over the '.' key.  It toggles whether insert point
limits itself to orthogonal lines or not.  Off to pull the line out
(two points), on to add the new point on each side to re-ortho it.
