It shouldn't be necessary to install and compile any of the standard libs from the iso image. These are better supplied by your distro. In particular, they may be patched to suit the development environment of your system. Having the same lib twice on the system is asking for trouble, especially if you do it without telling the package management system. Fetch the development files for the guile libs as well as for all the other libraries the configure script wants to compile from the iso image. A few days after the current iso image was announced, I reported which packages I had to add to my Debian box to make the geda installer happy. It should be in the mailinglist archive of September.
