In a way ... I always set up my machines with a spare partition that can be used to install again without clobbering the original. It might make sense to make the machine dual-boot, either 64 or 32 bit. There are some applications that only have 32 bit versions available. There are some plugins that only have 32 bit versions, and require the 32 bit application. Because of this, it might make sense to be able to boot 32 bit. I said "it might be easier" because if you get one of the easy to install distributions, you can pretty much put the CD in and have a working system with almost no hassle. Some of them (Fedora, Ubuntu) are so easy "a child can do it". Some others (Debian) are easy too, but you might actually need to know something. For your problem, it might be too big for 32 bit. The address space is only 2^32 = 4 gig. There are probably other factors that make it even worse. You did kill off all competing processes, I assume. I usually have lots of stuff open. It all takes space. When space is short, get rid of it. _______________________________________________ geda-user mailing list [email protected] http://www.seul.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/geda-user
