The auto rotate tries to use the orientation of text the most of the test on the page, auto rotate may want to be turned off for your runs
I have hit this problem with postscripts files before, so i usually force the pages to landscape in ps2pdf here are some tips..... i also hit similar problems with using 11x17 paper. http://www.ghostscript.com/~ghostgum/pdftips.htm are we missing some postscript directives?
