Its not that hard if you do it the GUI way:
1) Draw a rectangle. (F5)
2) copy the rectangle to buffer (ctrl-c)
3) do
buffer -> convert_buffer_to_element
3a) optional: paste buffer to canvas for inspection and tweaking
4) do
buffer -> save_buffer_to_file
