Okay, "courtyard". Thanks for the nomenclature help :-) I'm just thinking of a couple of parts for a design that I'm working on where I need to make sure that I don't put any more parts in between areas of the footprint, but traces are ok because they're part of the board and won't interfere with the airspace. Is it possible that this (or the "assembly layer" concept mentioned by timecop) is already supported by PCB somehow, but I just don't know about it? I can't say I'd be surprised - I seem to learn something new every week or so... Thanks! -Jon
