When you get from CVS, run the "autoconf.sh" script in the top directory first. Hmm.. looks like you did that. OK.
~From there, yes the Makefile.in files are what you edit. Not the Makefile files. There are no Makefile.am files, because the Icarus Verilog autoconf process is not as contorted as it could be;-)
