Since we seem to be discussing languages for describing EDA tools, thought you might be interested in the JHDL tool that Brigham Young University is developing:

Current software targets only Xilinx 4K, Virtex, and Virtex II series
devices, but for those interested in how FPGAs work, this is an
interesting project.
And yes, JHDL is OpenSource.
I haven't used it yet, but may soon.
