I have to agree. Open Source, in my opinion, is not about taking the
work of others without their consent. Open source is about authors
deciding to share, not about theft. If you don't like the license of a
piece of code, then don't use the code. It is not ethical to ignore the
restrictions. If that were ethical then it would also be ethical to
ignore the GPL and use GPL code in proprietary code bases. The golden
rule being do unto others as you would have done onto your self.
The authors of the code do have the right to set the rules by how the
code is used. Users only have the right to decide if they want to use
the code within the author's restrictions or not. If you don't like the
authors rules move on and write your own code.
You opend this can of worms. It has to be rejected here publicly before
we can move on to an off-list disagreement.

That is your opinion. Others have the right to disagree.
Can we take this off-list, please?
MS
Hello list,
It's been a while since I've had a chance to check my email. With that said,
Here I am, crusing along, reading the gEDA mails when I run into this. I find
this statement appalling, offensive and absolutely inappropriate.
I don't want anarchy in my mailbox - Even when the author/WanaBeAnarchist
covers his rear (Poorly, I might add...) with a "Can we take this off list ,
Please?".
Best regards
Marvin
