Doubtful, but perhaps he's referring to the PIC's patently older
architecture versus the much more modern Atmel processors.  Like
NE2000 -- it's legacy, but it's still in regular production without
any signs of stopping soon.

  It's interesting how the word "legacy" keeps getting redefined. ;)
