Hi All, I've been a user of GQView and then Geeqie for several years and I couldn't be happier - it's great!
But I've noticed a strange error after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, Geeqie 1.0. I thought I'd note down my findings, as the behaviour has changed since the previous version of Geeqie, and previous GQView. WHAT WORKS - I have a file in /home/callan/image.jpg - I have 'safe delete' enabled, using /home/callan/geeqie_trash - I delete the file - Everything works as expected - Bear in mind that all file are owned by me, with chmod 755 WHAT DOES NOT WORK - I have a NAS storage device, running SAMBA - As I have multiple users on my computer, I set perms on the mount to user=root, and group=BOGGLERS, with all files/folders perms 770 - All local users on my computer are part of BOGGLERS - This means all users can read/write files on the NAS - Geeqie set to use 'safe delete' - /home/callan/geeqie_trash - An example file would be : -rwxrwx--- 1 root bogglers 4.1M 2010-11-12 21:54 20101109-142128.JPG - If I delete file, a copy DOES appear in /home/callan/geeqie_trash - But the file on my NAS is not removed - I get an error 'external editor returned error status - file delete failed' - If I try to move a file, same thing WHY AM I REPORTING THIS ? - I have had the same NAS for some time, and in the previous Ubuntu (10.04) I had all the same connection to the NAS, and never had a problem. WHAT ELSE HAVE I TRIED? - I set /home/geeqie_trash to perms 777. No success. - I turned off the 'safe delete' function. Everything works. - I turned 'safe delete' back on, but changed my system so the samba mount is directly with my own username, and my own group. Everything works. I can't really work out what the problem is. I originally thought possibly Geeqie was trying to create a file in /home/geeqie_trash with the same owner (root) a the original file, and failing. But this cannot be the case, because the file actually is created no problem. I guess I can only conclude that there is an issue with the actual delete process. I have tried --debug, I don't get anything interesting at all. I'm hoping someone may have any input as to what's causing the problem? I'm happy to help test things if required ...
