Hi folks! I'd like to propose a change in the geeqie sidebar, making it mirror Metadata Working Group guidelines and expanding it's functionality.
I think I can do a lot of the work myself, I am not the most knowledgeable coder in the world, but the sidebar structure looks quite easy to understand. I have been hacking on metadata for other projects, adding additional namespaces/keys to exiv2 and patching the digikam metadata editor. Right now, the sidebar has several sections: Title, Keywords, Comments, Exif, Location, Copyright, File Info. Those are excellent and well thought out choices, but I'd like to take them further. My idea is based on reading the MWG guidelines. http://www.metadataworkinggroup.org/pdf/mwg_guidance.pdf That documents talks about grouping metadata into 4 categories: who, what, where, when It then goes on to document which fields to map together, for example IPTC Keywords and XMP Subject. My proposal is to add the categories which geeqie does not currently have (when) and re-group the ones it does have under Who, What, Where. Again, I think I can do most of this work myself, as long as it sounds worthwhile. I am working on something similiar for gexiv2, but geeqie does not use gexiv2 ...
