Nope, removal of the code making OpenCL work definetely would have
been unintended. The removal must have passed unnoticed in the pursuit
of better general thread safety. The profiling done at the time
indicated that multi-threaded cpu code outperformed the AMD OpenCL
implementation when using my i5 intel multi-core cpu, but surely with
some GPUs; OpenCL paths might be faster still.
