21 American and 1 Britain soldiers decided to stay in China after Korean War. They were captured by Chinese voluntary army during the combats as prisoners. This is James Veneris - Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Veneris>, one of the 21 soldiers. On the left is his Chinese wife. I will just tell you the Chinese version of his reason to stay in China: Veneris was born in Pennsylvania in 1922 as the oldest child of his family. He began to work since middle school just to ease the pressure from his parents. Due to many reasons, he couldn’t find any job for a long time, but had to join the military. He was a infantry at the begining, and became an artillery after Attack on Pearl Harbor - Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor>. He was very brave during WWII. After the war, he was discharged and went back home. However, due to another eco crisis, he had to join the military again, and this time in Korea. A month after he arrived Korea, he got captured during a night assault. After being transfered to the 5th prisoner camp, he got shocked by the living standard of the prisoners. Because it’s actually much better than what the Chinese soldiers have. Chinese soldiers at the frontlines in a period had only pickelled vege and corn, but prisoners could have meat and military food caputured from American armies. This is from his own words: “时间长了,我们和志愿军战士建立了深厚的感情。 As time passed, we established very good relationship with the voluntary army soldiers. One time, Korean people gave an apple to the Chinese soldiers whom is reponsible of watching us. He saw me watching that apple and knew that I want it, and passed that apple into my hands. Another time, a soldier got a pen, but valued it too much to use it. When he knew that I like pens, he gave his to me. I kept that pen till today. I was a heavy smoker. Many soldiers saved their cigarettes and sent them to me. It’s fine to say that my life in the prisoner camp was very happy. I deeply believe that this is a civilized and merciful army, an army which gets the heart of people. ------------------------------ To be honest, at least back in the 50’s, the Chinese voluntary army was the only army which treats everyone equally. Black soldiers got treated with no difference from white soldiers. Indian soldiers had the same rights as their officers, no caste in the prisoner camps. Many of them were not used of this. But sooner, they began to enjoy the equality. In November 1952, a prisoner olympic games was organized in the 5th prisoner camp. Americans got the most champions. ------------------------------ Only 21 prisoners eventually chose to stay in China, because China in the 50’s was poor as fxxk. In 1950s, the capital Beijing, having a bicycle was an luxury for average people. Not to mention other places in China. Meanwhile the US. It would take great courage to leave the cozy American life behind, and embrace the Chinese poverty. Eventhough most of the prisoners went back home, they still had very positive opinion towards communist China. They learnt from their experience that Chinese commies are not evil. However, most of them got persecuted due to the political atomsphare. McCarthy Era may ended in 1954, but its influence lasted till today. ------------------------------ It was also because of the prisoners who refused going back to the US but stayed in USSR and China that the US government believed in the existance of brainwash technology. Americans therefore began their own mind manipulation programm called Project MKUltra - Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKUltra>, and many other weird stuff. They simply couldn’t believe that anyone would support the evil communist authority, but for sure getting there brain washed by some evil technique. What they don’t know is that those whom stayed in the USSR were moved by the noble goal of communism, and those whom stayed in China were moved by the kindness of Chinese people. 39.9K views View 635 upvotes View 20 shares 635 20 28 -- Anda menerima pesan ini karena Anda berlangganan grup "GELORA45" dari Google Grup.
