Indonesia Adds 3,000 New Coronavirus Cases to Pass 180,000

Jakarta. Indonesia reported 3,075 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday to
take the country’s total to 180,646 as it’s heading into yet another
toughest month in the outbreak after registering the highest single-month
rise in August.

The daily death toll returned to three digits with 111 for a total of 7,616
Covid-19 deaths.

Worst-hit Jakarta added 1,054 more cases, the third time it saw a
four-digit daily rise, bringing the total number of cases to 42,041,
including 1,231 deaths. The capital city has been continuously leading the
national tally since August 6.

East Java recorded 385 cases to take its total to 34,278 and reported 29
more deaths in the past 24 hours for a total of 2,425, the highest death
toll among other provinces.

The biggest number of Covid-19 deaths of the day was reported by Central
Java, with 31 to take its total death toll to 1,043.

Both East Java and Central Java have among the country’s worst fatality
rate in proportion to the total cases, accounting for 7.1 percent. It’s
much higher than the national average of 4.2 percent.

The country’s highest fatality rate is 7.2 percent in Bengkulu, where there
are only 349 cases including 25 deaths.

Central Java also holds the third biggest number of cases, totaling 14,428
as of Wednesday, 264 more from a day earlier.

South Sulawesi saw a surge in its daily total with 137 cases, its highest
in more than two weeks, for a total of 12,194.

But West Java is closing in on South Sulawesi by adding 203 new cases to
take its total to 11,481.

A surge in cases was reported by other hotspots like North Sumatra and
Bali. Total cases in North Sumatra exceeded 7,000 on Wednesday after it
added 182 more. Bali reported 169 new cases for a total of 5,536.

Indonesia has added 1,914 recovered patients in the last 24 hours, bringing
the total number of recoveries to just below 130,000, or 71.9 percent of
total cases.

Around 43,000 active coronavirus cases were recorded on Wednesday, with an
overwhelming majority of sufferers taking self-imposed quarantine.

Jakarta has the most active cases, totaling around 9,000 patients.
