Jakarta. The Jakarta Police launched investigation on Friday after they
discovered five dead bodies in the freezer of a fishing vessel while
conducting maritime patrol off North Jakarta a day earlier.

The captain of the vessel has claimed that the five workers died from
consuming pre-mix cocktails on the ship, but police wouldn’t just buy that.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the dead bodies have been kept in
the freezer for around two weeks.

“The bodies have been taken to the police hospital for autopsies to
determine the cause of their deaths,” Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr.
Yusri Yunus told reporters.

The Water Police Unit inspected the Starindo Jaya Maju VI fishing boat
during a patrol near Pari Island in Jakarta’s Kepulauan Seribu district on
Thursday.

"Officers checked the boat manifest and found 43 names on the list, but in
reality there were only 38 people onboard. A further search discovered five
death bodies in the freezer," Yusri said.

Police have interrogated the ship’s captain and five crew members and
received information their colleagues had died from consuming self-made
cocktails around two weeks before the police came.

"The incident occurred on Sept. 3, when crew members held a party with
pre-mix liquor after sailing for two months and the vessel began to head
ashore. Five people died in the alcohol party and the captain decided to
keep them in the freezer because it took another two weeks to the shore,"
Yusri said.
