There isn't much on the wiki about it, but there is some description of
checkpointing in the tutorials (e.g., see
http://www.gem5.org/dist/tutorials/isca_pres_2011.pdf  starting at slide
54, particularly 75-76).

For the most part checkpointing is pretty stable; there was some recent
work on generating and importing cache warmup traces under Ruby but that's
all the recent development I recall.
