There's a good chance that will get it to work, but it shouldn't be necessary. Something is probably not set up properly on your system. Are you using Ubuntu? I helped someone set up an Ubuntu system for use with gem5 once, and we had a lot of trouble until we installed a package which I think was called build-essential. I don't know what it does, but it let scons find gcc properly.

Gabe

Quoting Erik Tomusk <[email protected]>:

Have you tried
$> scons build/ALPHA/gem5.prof CC=<path to gcc> CXX=<path to g++>

where the paths are probably /usr/bin/gcc and /usr/bin/g++? The first time you compile, scons doesn't know which compiler to use.

Hi,

Please i am still having a blocking problem in the gem5 building,i searched a lot in the internet, but i didn't reach to a solution.

As i have installed all the dependencies (http://www.m5sim.org/Dependencies) as when i typed "port installed",the output:
The following ports are currently installed:
 ....
 gcc43 @4.3.6_3 (active)
 gcc_select @0.1_6 (active)

 m4 @1.4.16_0 (active)
 mercurial @2.1.2_0 (active)

 python_select @0.3_1 (active)
 scons @2.0.1_1 (active)
 swig @2.0.5_0 (active)
 zlib @1.2.6_0 (active)

The Error that i got when i typed "scons build/ALPHA/gem5.prof" :
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
Error: Don't know what compiler options to use for your compiler.
Please fix SConstruct and src/SConscript and try again.

So any help will be really highly appreciated.

   /usr/share/swig/1.3.31/python/python.swg

   The output for 'whereis swig':

   The output for 'swig -version':

   Configured options: +pcre

So i tried to add all the paths as shown:

   export PATH=/usr/share/swig/1.3.31/python/python.swg:$PATH

   export PATH=/usr/share/swig:$PATH

   export PATH=/opt/local/share/swig:$PATH

   export PATH=/usr/bin/swig:$PATH

   export
PATH=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/include/wx-2.5/wx/wxPython/i_files/python.swg:$PATH

But i am still having the same error:

   Error: Unable to find 'python.swg'

   build/ALPHA/python/swig/core.i:66: Error: Unable to find
   'std_string.i'

   scons: *** [build/ALPHA/python/swig/core_wrap.cc] Error 1

scons: building terminated because of errors.

What do you get when you do 'locate python.swg'? Also,
'whereis swig' and 'swig -version'. Most likely, swig isn't
configured correctly for some reason. Maybe it also wasn't
       automatically added to your path.

           but after reaching the line

               So just do 'scons build/ALPHA/gem5.opt'

When you run the simulation, it'll run FS/SE based on
