Hi Anderson, I would suggest that you start with a disk image from gem5.org and modify it rather than create one from scratch. If you want to create one from scratch you'll need a disk image (ubuntu is fine, but all the startup scripts and programs do take a while to run) and you'll need to create a disk image with a partition map at the beginning of it (search for gem5img.py on the wiki).
