Where is the 2.3.4 version installed - on the simulated machine or the host machine?
Can you also post the error message that appeared with the segmentation fault that makes you believe that glibc is at fault? Also, since you are running applications on the Alpha architecture, you might want to compile glibc for Alpha. From your mail, it seems you are compiling it for x86.
