I added an Ethernet device IGbE_igb to the x86 system and connected it to the iobus as you did in your post. I compiled the linux kernel 2.6.28.4 with the igb driver. I also tried to manually add the address range to the bridge as you did. I can enter the shell but cannot find the Ethernet device eth0.
Does it show up in /proc/iomem?

That's caused by the lack of support for CPUID EAX=0x80000008. You need to patch src/arch/x86/cpuid.cc in order to add support for that before ioremap() will work.
