Apologies... to be clearer: The major thing for getting a working kernel is configuring the build correctly to keep gem5 from trying to use devices and CPU features that are not implemented. The build config files <http://www.m5sim.org/dist/current/x86/config-x86.tar.bz2> available on the gem5 site should be a good starting point.
