I will come back to you soon with the benchmark and the point where it occurs.

Actually, it happens way far in the simulation, so due to time-constraints, I 
did not use m5.debug to track the problem, so was not sure what was causing the 
trouble. But I am pretty sure, once I did saw "tried to access unmapped 
address" with multiple programs (after applying patch). Plus as Gabe mentioned 
it does not look like a cache problem since stuff works fine with timing CPU.
